Okay, Now Let's Look at Superdelegates

Since the first campaign volunteer came into Texas, the political pundits warned that if the March 4th primaries solved nothing (which is looking like the case) than now Democrats across America strap-in for a longer, potentially dirtier, primary campaign season.

As most people are starting to notice, even if Clinton routs Obama for the next three months until the Puerto Rico primary this summer, she'll still be behind in total pledged delegates. In fact, if present trends continue and the races stay as close as they have been, neither candidate will be able to reach the magic number of 2,025 needed to become the nominee without the help of the roughly 500 uncommitted superdelegates. Barack Obama gained roughly 180 delegates yesterday, while Hillary Clinton gained close to 200.

So, now it looks like it may just come down to those 796 superdelegates. And before we let Texas fade off the political radar for a while, let's take a look at the Texas Democratic elite who will likely have the final say in who their nominee for president will be. Along with their exemplary coverage of yesterday's election, Austin's own Burnt Orange Report has created a supernifty superdelegate supertracker based on official endorsements. There are 32 superdelegates from Texas, 3 add-ons to be appointed before the convention in June and 1 Austin superdelegate, Congressman Lloyd Doggett. Here's the current state of things:

Senator Hillary Clinton currently has 11 Superdelegate Endorsements from Texas...

1. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Laredo
2. Congressman Gene Green, Houston
3. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, Rio Grande Valley
4. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Houston
5. Congressman Solomon Ortiz, Corpus Christi
6. Congressman Silvestre Reyes, El Paso
7. City Council Member Sue Lovel, Houston
8. DNC Member Norma Fisher Flores
9. DNC Member David Holmes
10. Former House Speaker Jim Wright
11. DNC Member, Former State Party Chair Bob Slagle

Senator Barack Obama currently has 9 Superdelegate Endorsements from Texas...

1. Congressman Chet Edwards, Waco
2. Congressman Lloyd Doggett, Austin
3. Congressman Charlie Gonzalez, San Antonio
4. Congressman Al Green, SW Houston & Fort Bend County
5. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Dallas
6. DNC Appointed Moses Mercado
7. DNC Member, State Representative Senfronia Thompson, Houston
8. DNC Member, State Representative Yvonne Davis
9. State Party Vice-Chair Roy LaVerne Brooks

There are 12 estimated Superdelegates who have yet to endorse either candidate...

1. Congressman Nick Lampson, Fort Bend & Galveston
2. Congressman Ciro Rodriguez, West Texas
3. DNC Member Al Edward
4. State Party Chair Boyd Richie
5. DNC Member Linda Chavez-Thompson
6. DNC Member Jaime Gonzalez Jr
7. DNC Member Denise Johnson
8. DNC Member John Patric
9. DNC Member Betty Richie

If Hillary loses the pledged delegates and is selected by the superdelegates, expect another 4 years of republican reign.

I am an Obama supporter and would vote for Hillary if she wins the vote of the people, but I will never vote for someone selected for me by party elites. Nader will get my vote if this happens.

If you can trust it, Wikipedia has a very nice entry on the state of ALL superdelegates:

    Candidate / Endse / FL&MI / Total

    Hillary Clinton / 241 / 15 / 256

    Barack Obama / 205 / 5 / 210

    Uncommitted / 268 / 29 / 297

    Unassigned / 80 / 5 / 85

    Totals / 794 / 54 / 848

Looks like Obama needs to get to work....
