Friday Night Lights May Stay On

It's not official yet, but yesterday evening Nikke Finke reported on her blog that NBC is making a deal with DirecTV to keep airing critically-acclaimed and locally-filmed Friday Night Lights. The second season has ended, but the fate of the third season has been up in the air because of the football drama's dismal ratings and the lack of devotion to the show by NBC's head entertainment honcho.

It is assumed that if this deal goes through, episodes may first air on a DirecTV channel and then appear on NBC. A cross-platform plan such as this one is currently in place with NBC and USA for Law and Order:CI.

We'll let you know when things look more certain, but at least the future looks a little brighter for the show.

Friday Night Lights is the best non-comedy show on TV.
