This Week in Theatre: Odd & Ends

SXSW seems to be putting a damper on the Austin theatre scene—we've noticed quite the downtick in productions this and next week. Damn you, South-by! Still, there's plenty to see.

As intrepid LGT'er Tim pointed out last week, Loaded Gun Theory is running their original new work The Automat at the Dougherty Arts Center. The show shots are intriguing, the production's website is pretty damn cool, and the plot is...curious. Dead cook = in freezer. Got it. The suspects? "The Crazy, the Russian, or perhaps the Robots." Robots! This is why we love LGT. Zombies...robots...they do it all. Cool. 3/6-8, 12-15 @8pm & 3/9 @ 5pm. [tickets]

Another oddball production, Overwhelming Underdogs, is a "tour-de-force" by Austin darling Joe Hartman. One-man shows are a popular format in A-town, and Hartman doesn't disappoint. We loved it—look for our review tomorrow. Featuring seven different characters inspired, in part, by Hartman's surreal stint in LA, the show is a lot of fun. Produced by City Theatre at Arts on Real. Through 3/16, Th-Sa @8pm / Sun @5:30. [tickets]
