Wheelchair Epidemic Group Art Show Rolls into Gallery Lombardi

March means music in this town and even a few Austin art galleries are hopping on the musical bandwagon to display special exhibits in conjunction with SXSW.

Saturday marks the opening of Wheelchair Epidemic, a group show featuring exclusive black and white photos taken at Antone’s, 80s Austin punk scene photos by documentary photog Bill Daniel, and various music-inspired drawings, paintings and mixed media collages.

“Musicians who also make [artworks] like these are good at communicating honest emotional states and showing their love of musical history,” said Rachel Koper, who co-curated the show along with Win Wallace.

Gallery Lombardi also is hosting two live music performances during the exhibit. On Thursday, March 13th from 6-10 p.m., there will be performances by punk and rock groups Sharon Tate's Baby, Strange Attractors, Shootin' Pains & The Dicks and old-timey acoustic group If Bricks Had Wings. On Sat. March 15th from noon-6pm, bands from the Boulder, Colo.-based Hometapes label will perform. The shows are free and all ages.
