This Week in Theatre: Family Feuds
In chilliest Éire we have siblings who just can't get along. Hyde Park Theatre brings us The Lonesome West by the always outstanding Martin McDonagh. Last in the Leenane trilogy, it features Jude Hickey and Benjamin Summers as brothers who "quarrel over everything from potato chips to a sexy teenage bootlegger to what kind of hors d'oeurves to have at their father's funeral." Think of the brilliance of True West, but without the monotonous fuckin' crickets. Opens tomorrow and runs Th-Sa @8pm through March 29. Tickets online.
The Vortex takes on the sunny side—we're just talking weather here—with Troades. Based on Euripides' Trojan Women, it explores life for said women following Troy's decimation at the hands of the Greeks. Described as a "hauntingly beautiful...remarkable experience" the play is directed by Bonnie Cullum, adapted by Susan Estelle Kelso, and includes a live chorus with Joe England at musical direction and Michael McKelvey at choral direction; scenery by Ann Marie Gordon; lights by Jason Amato; and costumes by Talena Martinez. Yeah, okay—that adds up to beautiful and remarkable. Opens Friday and runs Th-Su @8pm through March 29. Reservations by calling 478-LAVA.
