Clash of the Titans To Take Place At LBJ Auditorium Somewhere TBD on UT Campus

Update (4:11pm): Contradictory to the press release sent out by Univision this morning, the Obama/Clinton debate hasn't been confirmed for LBJ Auditorium, which, as one commenter pointed out, is still under construction. An authority at UT has assured us that they'll have information concerning attendance and location soon.

Next Thursday's hugely anticipated debate between Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will take place in the LBJ Auditorium somewhere at UT Austin.

Hosted by CNN, Univision, and the Texas Democratic Party, the program will be broadcast live on CNN, CNN International, and CNN.com, and air later in Spanish on the Univision Network. We're still waiting to hear back on details of how (or whether) you'll be able to attend in person—given the massive crowds that showed up to Obama's Auditorium Shores speech, his subsequent rally at The Backyard, and (from pure hearsay) Clinton's elite fundraiser last March, we're pretty sure that demand for this event will far exceed supply.

No word yet on which illustrious CNN anchor will moderate the debate, but we're inviting you to choose your favorite from among ours on the left!

Meanwhile, both Obama and Clinton are pulling out all the stops to appeal to our state's Hispanic population, which account for as much as 25% of Texas' eligible voters, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. Obama today launched a Spanish radio ad (mp3) stressing his humble working-class roots. Each campaign is also spending upwards of $1 million on TV ads that began running this week.

In addition, the Capital Area Asian American Democrats (CAAAD) will host its first ever "fundraiser and Democratic awards" tomorrow night at the AFL-CIO Building at 1106 Lavaca. Money raised will help support CAAAD's "2008 in 2008" project to increase Asian American voter registration and turnout in Travis County, plus various and sundry efforts on the behalf of CAAAD-endorsed candidates.

People.... Anderson Cooper? Really??

I know he's done much since then, but I will ALWAYS associate Anderson Cooper with (being forced into homeroom to watch) Channel One.

Ya'll, I think the LBJ Auditorium is in the midst of heavy construction.

oh my gawd. austintown

the server ate my sentence.

not meant to be.

bring back Bernard Shaw

Can my mom moderate? She'd totally be like, great at this.

What do I need to do to get a couple tickets to this debate?

This is going to turn in to a Hanna Montana situation you wait and see...

If I could go to this and Anderson Cooper was moderating, my heart would explode from joy. (Hey, Cooper is a hot silver fox!)

I want to moderate.

If only Chris Farley were around to moderate. All questions would start with "Member when...." and end with "...that was awesome."

I heard Carlos Menstealia saying this morning on KLBJ-FM that the Obama people had asked for his endorsement. Seriously?! He's like the oreo of hispanic people. How about Gus Garcia or someone respectable, or at least semi-respectable. Seriously.

EVAN SMITH!!

Can we conjure up the ghost of Molly Ivins to moderate and maybe slap a millionaire's head or two?

Evan Smith would be awesome!
