Clash of the Titans To Take Place At LBJ Auditorium Somewhere TBD on UT Campus
Next Thursday's hugely anticipated debate between Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will take place in the LBJ Auditorium somewhere at UT Austin.
Hosted by CNN, Univision, and the Texas Democratic Party, the program will be broadcast live on CNN, CNN International, and CNN.com, and air later in Spanish on the Univision Network. We're still waiting to hear back on details of how (or whether) you'll be able to attend in person—given the massive crowds that showed up to Obama's Auditorium Shores speech, his subsequent rally at The Backyard, and (from pure hearsay) Clinton's elite fundraiser last March, we're pretty sure that demand for this event will far exceed supply.
No word yet on which illustrious CNN anchor will moderate the debate, but we're inviting you to choose your favorite from among ours on the left!
Meanwhile, both Obama and Clinton are pulling out all the stops to appeal to our state's Hispanic population, which account for as much as 25% of Texas' eligible voters, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. Obama today launched a Spanish radio ad (mp3) stressing his humble working-class roots. Each campaign is also spending upwards of $1 million on TV ads that began running this week.
In addition, the Capital Area Asian American Democrats (CAAAD) will host its first ever "fundraiser and Democratic awards" tomorrow night at the AFL-CIO Building at 1106 Lavaca. Money raised will help support CAAAD's "2008 in 2008" project to increase Asian American voter registration and turnout in Travis County, plus various and sundry efforts on the behalf of CAAAD-endorsed candidates.
