Wednesday at the Drafthouse Downtown, Japanese documentary filmmaker Kazuhiro Soda will be on hand to introduce his documentary, Campaign (Senkyo). The movie was an official selection at SXSW last year (we reviewed it, here).

The basic storyline follows an unassuming, bland, neophyte political candidate as he runs for election to a city council seat. He has nothing going for him but the strong party machinery of the LDP (Liberal Democratic Party), including the backing of the prime minister.

The doc is a fine look at campaign ethics, the dirt of politicking (we love when that's a verb) and contemporary Japanese culture in general.
