<p>While the passes may sell out, SXSW never stops selling badges. And with all the industry douches festooned with platinum badges purchased by their employers, badges easily fill every theater that has anything of interest playing. Last year's Beastie Boys concert film premiere at the Paramount was not seen by a single pass holder. Nor did a pass holder see last year's 4:00 PM premiere of "A Scanner Darkly" at the same theater during SXSW.

Don't buy a pass thinking you'll see the:

Scorcese documentary about the Rolling Stones
Harold and Kumar @ Guantanamo
21
Battle in Seattle
Beautiful Losers

The openings for popular films like that will be completely filled with badges. Then, the subsequent two screenings might have seats for badge holders, but they'll run in the middle of a week day when you'll have to take off work to see them.

Passes are a bust. The only reason SXSW still offers them is to continue the charade that SXSW events are accessible for local, non-music-industry people.
