Austinist Show Preview: Dead Meadow and Black Mountain

Sunday night may usually be time for relaxation, for winding down your weekend's bunch-o'-bliss and preparing for the drudgery of Monday and all the muck that follows it. Sunday night may usually mean propping yourself up with a stick, so exhausted from all yer football-inspired whoopin' and hollerin'. Sunday night may even be a time of penance. But this Sunday night, get ready for a change of gears and an old-fashioned opportunity to headbang, because Dead Meadow and Black Mountain are delivering a sea of drums and guitars and outright ferocity to this usually staid part of the week.

Making true-to-life rock and roll in a mode the classics would appreciate, Dead Meadow and Black Mountain are both riding the wave of spanking-new albums: Old Growth and In the Future, respectively. And hell, even the opener, Blood on the Wall, just came out with a new album. And that means the energy should be spectacularly high, the music should be awe-worthy in its loudness and grandeur, and that maybe you'll finally get to work out all that fuck-the-man feeling you've been storing up since 1978.

But first, and to get you in the mood, just say it: Dead Meadow, Black Mountain, Blood on the Wall. Dead Meadow. Black Mountain. Blood on the Wall. How could anything that sounds so deliciously dark do anything but inspire?

...and as it ended up, Black Mountain topped them both. Great effing show, especially when you factor in the awesomeness that was occurring on the indoor stage as well.

Been looking forward to this show for a while. Dead Meadow was excellent at SXSW last year.
