What's all the fuss? Well, it's a site-specific production, which is a fancy way of saying it's not in a comfy theater with lots of cooshy seats. In this case the "brothel" is a central Austin home. But anyone can stage a show in a house. The yap about YAP is the megawatt heft behind it: written by Adrienne Dawes, directed by Jenny Larson, featuring Lee Eddy, Cyndi Williams, David Yeakle, Carra Martinez, Michael Joplin, Alan Metoskie and Travis Hale. Oof! Now that's a sure bet, right there.
Roving new kids NxNW Theatre are staging Five Women Wearing the Same Dress (by Alan Ball: Six Feet Under, American Beauty) for two weekends only, downtown at the Hideout, and once the run is over, it's over. Directed by the much loved and lauded Karen Jambon, the titular characters do a little cussin' here, a little pot smokin' there, and cover topics with plenty of chops (religion, sexuality, AIDS). And it's all "wickedly funny." Tomorrow through 2/17, Th/Fr/Sa at 8pm and Sun at 2pm. [tickets]
