Name That Bookstore!

It's time to play the name game! The Friends of the Austin Public Library and their Monster Book Store, located at 5th and Mary in South Austin, are moving and looking for a new, snappier name. They want to tap the collective creativity of Austin. Suggestions will be accepted through February 14th.

The old post office building out of which that Monster Bookstore sold used books, records and other media will be converted into the new home of the Twin Oaks branch of the Austin Public Library. Moving from its current South Congress and Oltorf location, it is slated to open in the summer of 2009.

The Friends plan to open this spring, and though they haven't settle on a new location yet, they are thinking big. The new store will be a much more happening place, hosting live music, book and poetry readings, and events. All that's left to do (besides settle on an actual location) is to come up with a catchy new name. They're looking for something that reflects the concept of the store, identifies the store with the Friends and, of course, is memorable.

Since the "Friends" of the library pushed for a trophy library on a site far away from the bus lines that the transit-dependent poor, elderly and disabled use, how about the We Hate Needy Folks Book Store?
