Austinist (Advance) Show Giveaway: Gogol Bordello @ Stubb's on St. Patrick's Day

With the geographic world continuing to shrink in the 21st century and the increased ease of travel and communication opening new doors every day, today’s musical landscape is constantly evolving. Instruments from other cultures have always been utilized in western music, but of late, world styles are making major dents in the indie scene. Be it Vampire Weekend’s African accentuation, M.I.A.’s Bollywood beats, or Beirut evoking adventures in far off lands, we have been privy to some choice innovations in this decade. New York based Gogol Bordello’s brand of “Gypsy Punk” (falling in the geographic vicinity of Beirut’s concoctions) has been garnering momentum with the release of 2005’s Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike and last year’s Super Taranta!

It was nearly two years ago that our beloved Truecraig cited Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hütz as having “some Brian Jones sort of charm over the masses, moved from song to song in a live show, as if possessed.” He wasn’t wrong -- Gogol Bordello in concert is a manic medley of folk, punk, dance, you name it, they’ll blend it! Part minstrel act, part cabaret, it is as entertaining as it is intriguing. Hütz himself has had an interesting life to say the least, having moved from country to country within Europe in his younger years before landing in the States. He formed two bands (The Fags and Flying Fuck) in Vermont before eventually making his way to New York, where he met future members of Bordello and also established himself as an eclectic DJ in the city.

Since then Hütz has brought his troupe to Austin for multiple shows at Emo’s and spun his diverse collection of records at a SPIN party during a past SXSW, while also finding time to share a stage with Madonna for a good cause. Missed all that? Well you’re in luck! Hütz and his crew will hit up Stubb’s on St. Paddy’s Day to cure your SXSW hangover. Enter below for a chance to win a pair of tickets!

Congratulations, Carol!
