The band’s fondness for playing covers at their shows, including entire Iron Maiden albums in their own unique style, has earned them semi-cult status. If you missed their take on the landmark Maiden record The Number of the Beast on Halloween night at Room 710, fear not, because they are doing it again (although sans Blackholicus, who covered Powerslave that October night). Room 710 presents a special, free early show at 8 p.m. with the Invincible Czars showcasing bizarre versions of “Invaders” and “Run To The Hills” among many others. On this night, hell and fire was spawned to be released. Step down memory lane with Maiden's video for “The Number of the Beast” at the end of this post.
But that’s not until Saturday! On Friday night, Flogging Molly brings its Celtic-punk mayhem to Stubb’s, Attack Formation and The Black entertain at The Mohawk, and Bedouin Soundclash brew reggae potions at Emo’s. Dirty Wormz will be sitting on the curb, talkin’ to their 40 oz before taking their rap-metal shenanigans inside Antone’s (for free).
Ready Steady Go! hosts its monthly shindig on Friday at Beerland with music from The Ugly Beats. Or, you can look good on the dance floor at the Beauty Bar with Single Frame and Prince Klassen providing the inspiration.
Information on more weekend shows after the jump!
Super Furry Animals’ wacky psychedelic offerings can be heard outside at Emo’s on Saturday. Holy sh*te! Holy Fuck opens! The Platforms’ First Annual Groundhog Day Party takes place inside at Emo’s the same evening with The Midgetmen and Yuppie Pricks mixing humor, beer, and rock n’ roll.
The best of the rest for Saturday evening includes The Mercers and The Boxing Lesson inside at Stubb’s (following the Angels & Airwaves outside show), Manejo Beto and Grupo Fantasma at Antone’s, The Flametrick Subs at Beerland, and the Faceless Werewolves at Lambert’s. The Story Of take the stage at 11 p.m. at the Six More Weeks Of Winter party at Victory Grill, with $1 drinks all night!
Some notable pre-Mardi Gras efforts this weekend -- Lunatic Fringe Burlesque presents Laissez les bon temps rouler : A Musical New Orleans Burlesque Experience at Emo’s Lounge on Saturday and the Scoot Inn is home to a special Sock Hop on both nights featuring The Hot 8 Brass Band.
