Theatre News Bits
Got some contemporary dance you want to show off? Spank Dance Company is looking for choreographers to present new dance works for the Big Range Austin Dance Festival, June 6-15. Application deadline is February 15.
This might not technically be theatre, but it made for some great comedy. On Saturday's show [listen], the Car Talk guys repeated the name of Austinite and Puzzler-winner Quentin Fennessy eight times in a row, including such comments as, "Sounds like a drink! I'll have a Quentin Fennessy on ice," and "It could be a garment. I'll be wearing my Quentin Fennessy to the ball next week!" Wonder how many times Quentin Fennessy has been Googled during the last six days?
Frontera completed its first week of Short Fringe last Friday, and here are the Best of Week winners:
- Priscilla Sample's Brain Big: Excerpts from a play about female body image. Monologue. Director: Jenifer Carsrud.
- Blue Spot Theatre Co's The Weiner Chronicles, by Alex Garza. Robin Williams once said "God gave us a penis and a brain, but not enough blood to use both at the same time!"
- Coldtowne's Buddy Daddy. Arthur Simone, improvisational actor, is joined on stage by his dog—Robin Goodfellow—whom Arthur leads in an improvised montage of hilarious & adorable scenes.
- Hank Schwemmer's Ballet for Dog and Red-Haired Girl. An open window and a long way down. Directed by Emily Fordyce with Elizabeth Doss and David Yeakle.
- Listrunk's A Genuine Plea to My Insides by Kelli Bland. A dialogue between the performer and her body.
Hey now, didn't we recommend a few of those? Consider getting your Best of Fest tickets while the gettin's good.
