Giveaway: Les Savy Fav at Emo's Tonight

A healthy dose of semi-abrasive indie rock on a cold weekend night -- what more could you want? Milk and cookies, you say? Sorry, Emo's doesn't serve that. Saturday night, our beloved and hallowed Emo's plays host to Les Savy Fav, supported by Fatal Flying Guillotines and Attack Formation.

If you're counting, it'd been six years since Les Savy Fav released a record of new material. And last September's Let's Stay Friends was the first we'd heard from them since 2004. We're not exactly sure what that means. We know they've got the cred: they've been around since the beginnings of what we now officially term indie rock, they're all art students from RISD (kind of a big deal), they've sold a ton of albums (three full-lengths plus a singles compilation), their songs have been featured in a couple of prominent TV commercials, and, really, even if you don't know who they are, you've at least heard their name.

We don't normally offer giveaways on Saturday mornings, but hell, why not? Follow the jump if you'd like to go.

On the flip side, we're not exactly sure what they've been doing for the last six years. Hanging out in New York and working desk jobs? Or better, coffee shop jobs? Being content with re-releasing singles and making money off of that and a couple Major League Baseball ads? We're trying not to be critical because, after all, a few bitchin' people showed up to help out on this album (Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces, Nicholas Thornburn of Islands/Unicorns, Emily Haines of Metric, and Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse), but whether the album is legitimately good or just the indie rock version of Frank Sinatra's Duets, we don't know. What we've heard so far seems to be a strange mix of the years 2001 and 2007 -- does that mean they've evolved?

One thing we know is that the live show delivers. Famously energetic and at times theatrical, Les Savy Fav is a band that knows how to rock. You're sure to not to meet disappointment, so have at it.
