Spence is a long-time friend of the Clintons and has hosted fund-raising events for them at his Austin home. He had been active early in the campaign, but began to take on an even greater role last week following the Iowa caucuses.
As the leader of GSD&M, Spence crafted the Texas anti-litter campaign "Don't Mess With Texas" and worked with Southwest Airlines on their "You Are Now Free To Move About The Country" messaging.
Late last year, Spence set out to walk from New Hampshire, through the Northeast, to Pennsylvania as a way to "reach out and celebrate the goodness of America". He started a website, Walking with Roy, to document his travels.
Spence isn't the only Austinite with a major role in a presidential campaign this year. Mark McKinnon is a top media adviser for Republican John McCain.

Maybe I could take him seriously if he hadn't fired so many people last year. Maybe. Rrobably not.
Its hard to keep people on board that weren't able to retaing their largest customer. Sadly I heard they were hiring for somme of the same positions they had cut only a couple weeks later. Seems to me it was more about hiring cheaper labor than it was actually cutting their workforce. I firmly believe they want to run the company solely on the talent of interns. And no, I didn't work there. I always thought I wanted to, but after hearing from some of those let go I changed my mind. My ego is not nearly big enough for that place.
Just another reason to dislike Roy Spence and rejoice that his ad agency is swirling down the toilet.
A Hillary Clinton ticket will be a disaster for Texas Democrats, I guarantee. GOP rednecks will be crawling out of the woodwork to vote against her.
Ah, Austin politics. A lot more like College Station than most would be willing to admit.
