Austinist Show Preview & Giveaway: DJ Shadow

Fold up your cardboard squares, strap on your backpacks and pull out that old copy of 1996's Endtroducing..... to brush up on your samples. That is, if you were one of those people who already have a ticket to see DJ Shadow Friday night at La Zona Rosa, because it’s sold out (unless you're our lucky reader). There’s sure to be plenty of knob-twiddling, 45 flipping and mixer, uh, mixing for this experimental hip-hop set as he teams up with Cut Chemist yet again to dominate a bunker fortified with eight or so turntables.

Austin gets the two of them in the very beginning of their Hard Sell tour while they’re still energetic and eager to make with the beats, scratches, loops and effects. Be ready for an ever-changing sound mixing funk, soul, rock and whatever else DJ Shadow can find with an evolving hip-hop beat and the occasional sound bite or sampled chorus thrown in to keep things interesting. Canadian turntablist Kid Koala will open the show with a set that may include eclectic sampling from sources like television specials and people sneezing.
