Austinist Show Preview: Canopy and more at The Hole in the Wall
Sunday, January 20
Hole in the Wall (2538 Guadalupe St)
21+, 9pm, No Cover
[info]
This Sunday, come to one of one of Austin’s most comfortably worn-in bars to see four promising local artists strut their stuff. The Pillow Queens, Canopy (or CCANOPYY), Spirit of Space and Jacob Borshard will all play The Hole in the Wall starting around 9, with no cover.
The Pillow Queens are raucous garage quartet with energy to spare, and are currently recording an album for the Monofonus Press. Canopy are a newer multi-faceted, multi-instrumental troupe of horns and indie chops who are currently recording an EP with Brazos’ Martin Crane, and also promise a cover of Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without a Face” for their Sunday appearance.
Speaking of covers, that’s the exact approach local guys Spirit of Space are taking with their set, playing an entire show worth of Velvet Underground songs. How many songs will that be? If they play “Sister Ray,” maybe just one, but you’ll have to go to find out. Also performing is Jacob Borshard, bringing some sweet ukulele action to the stage.
