Austinist Show Preview & Giveaway: Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black at The Mohawk

Even after the sketch comedy gem The State was grounded prematurely (and where’s that DVD already?) it hasn’t stopped Michael Showalter or Ian Black from bounding into many more comedic projects in the ensuing years.

You’ll remember them both from their hilarious turns in the cult classic Wet Hot American Summer, and your mom and little sister know MIchael Ian Black from his dry ruminations on VH1’s I Love the Whatever and Sierra Mist commercials. And both he and Showalter, along with David Wain, helmed the show Stella before it, too, went the way of The State.

Aside from appearing on television, commercials and films, Showalter and Ian Black both pulled a Bill Cosby by issuing their first albums of comedic material, suspiciously released one month apart from one another at the end of 2007.

Showalter’s was entitled Sandwiches & Cats, which came out on J-Dub records and aligned him with a roster of artists that includes the great Golem and trendy musical anomaly Matisyahu. Ian Black’s album, I Am A Wonderful Man, came out on Comedy Central records.

The two comedians will showcase their material this Friday evening with a show at The Mohawk, presented by 101X and The Onion - a not-to-miss performance by two hilarious goofballs. Follow the jump for a chance to win tickets.
