Austinist Show Preview & Giveaway: Future Clouds and Radar at The Parish

Robert Harrison’s forte has always been melodious pop music and his current outfit Future Clouds and Radar is no anomaly. The act’s stellar self-titled album (out now on Star Apple Kingdom) contains boundless hooks and plenty of Beatles-esque psychedelia, and has garnered rave reviews from a plethora of publications such as HARP, Paste, Pop Culture Press, and No Depression. Check out the video for “Dr. No.” here.

Apparently the band’s philosophy tinges pop sensibility with a sense of humor -- for the holidays, the band offered their latest (double) record at a special price of $23 -- to cover their cost of the CD ($16) along with a $7 donation for their “depleted coffers in the good name of Radiohead.” The band also revealed plans for the incoming funds -- “Rest assured a band who needs your support far more than Radiohead will put the funds to good use and we will, as a special bonus, use a percentage of the revenue to fashion a Radiohead shrine available for viewing at our shows- topped off by a motorized Thom Yorke figurine who will be programmed to gyrate spasmodically and caterwaul in daring gibberish that verges on profundity at times.” Good stuff!

Harrison once fronted Cotton Mather (the band, not the dude) -- the band enjoyed a reasonable amount of success before their culmination, going on tour with the likes of Oasis, while we fondly remember seeing them turn in a solid performance opening up for Therapy? at a past SxSW gig.

Check out Harrison’s present band, along with The Boxing Lesson, The Breathers, and Hollywood Gossip, this Friday at The Parish. Follow the jump for a chance to win a pair of tickets!
