- More talk of the coming recession: "The question is not whether we will have a recession, but how deep and prolonged it will be."
- Meanwhile, Austin's economy may be uniquely positioned among the nation's cities to withstand a potential recession.
- Yesterday, scientific researchers at the University of Minnesota reported success in creating a beating rat heart in a laboratory. The heart was reanimated with newly generated cells. The achievement is described as "landmark" in medicine's progression toward creating new human organs to replace damaged ones.
- In his relentless campaign against Iran, President Bush appears to now be taking the approach of uniting "Arab allies" against the controversial nation. Last week, Bush also said he expected a peaceful agreement between Israel and Palestine before his presidency ended. The guy's trying so hard to leave some sort of positive legacy that you almost feel bad for him.
- Florida 2000, Part Deux? Allegations are now gaining steam that electronic vote-counting software may have incorrectly given the New Hampshire Democratic Primary to Hillary Clinton. A recount in New Hampshire has already been announced.
- Roy Spence, CEO and Co-Founder of local advertising firm GSD&M, is now reportedly working on Hillary Clinton's election team.
- On Saturday, the City of Austin laid out its development plan for downtown and listened to input from members of the Austin community. Negotiations continue. The plan will go up for a vote at City Hall in February.
