Oh. And the Exxon since Exxon is such an altruistic corportation.

It's called SouperSalads, cram, and it's a uniquely local Austin business that will surely fail because of Wal Mart. Two people are crying somewhere over the imminent demise of Souper Salads. It is, after all, an Austin landmark on par with the Schlotsky's over there and the massive McDonalds on Burnet.

  • Grape Ape

Claiming that there would be a traffic issue is an absurd argument. The studies have been done and that area was designed to handle more traffic for Northcross Mall in its day than WM will ever create. And M1EK is right, you need to take a look aroudn your "neighborhood" to see what's really there; gas stations, strips malls, fast food establishments, a movie theater, more funiture stores than anyone needs, apartments, banks and now a car dealership. I don't know about you, but I actually live in an old Austin neighborhood and I don't have any of those things.

  • cram

But but but... all the Walmart generated traffic might hurt people who really need to get to the Party Pig and Salads-To-Go quickly! Oh no!

  • mdahmus

Retro_gal, thanks for bringing out a nice set of matchingly debunked talking points.

    1. Burnet/Anderson can easily handle the traffic. That's why we do this thing called a TIA. But anybody who doubts, drive through some center-city intersections during rush hour, and then Burnet/Anderson. Hint: You don't have much traffic, compared to other major intersections in the city. You just don't.

    2. No, it's not "old Austin neighborhoods". The accurate way to describe the area is a SHOPPING MALL, surrounded essentially on all sides by a large buffer of STRIP MALLS, then some apartment complexes, and then and only then the development most people refer to as "neighborhoods" - i.e. 1950s large-lot single-story low-density sprawl.

  • Retro_gal

Everyone bashing RG4N obviously does not live in the area. These roads can barely handle the traffic as is. Bringing in a HUGE 24/7 Walmart will negatively effect every single person who works and lives near Northcross. To the idiot who says there are no neighborhoods... are you freakin kidding me?!? The whole area is old Austin neighborhoods that deserve repect.

Southpark Meadows is in Buda and I don't go out there. I just know everytime I've been to the one on 183 near the interstate in Austin there are no white people in there. Maybe 2 or 3.

  • deadflowers

Plenty of white folks go to the one at Southpark Meadows.

  • LoudMouth

Go to Wal Mart, get in line, pick up a pack of gum, and count the number of white faces you see while you wait half an hour to pay. Not a lot of white people in Austin go to Wal Mart. Maybe in other towns they do, but not in Austin.

  • Wes

    Classist? Yes. Racist? No.

  • LoudMouth

I think the only people that can't see that the RG4N ideology is racist are the RG4N members.

  • Grape Ape

Will RG4N please go away! Look, I hate WM as much as the next person, but they own the land and they have a site plan that fits the zoning for that location and they have tried to accomodate the requests that RG4N had put forth. Secondly, there isn't a damn neighborhood on Anderson Lane; are the people who live around that area blind to the strip malls and actual mall that have been there for years? Again, this is not about WM imo, its about the kind of people WM stereotypically attracts. Maybe it should be changed to Racist Growth for Northcross?

Maybe everyone for RG4N should make a deal. WM will do with their land and building what you tell them to and in return you agree to let WM tell you want color to paint your homes and what landscaping you can have. But RG4N won't have that, even though its exactly what they are asking of WM.

    Flame away!

  • mdahmus

Jennifer Kim is a disaster. Advocating the denial of a legal site plan is basically being proud of negligence in her duties to the taxpayers.

  • tim

"It's gonna be a freakin' disaster"

I assume she's referring to the fact that a lot of people are going to shop there and anti-Walmart ACC members and RG4N are going to look like tools.
