Austinist Show Preview: Beerland with Basic, Faceless Werewolves and more

Once again, Beerland is delivering the goods this week with a four bands worth of impressive up and comers.

For hyperactive guitar-led jams that feature whip smart drums and a keyboard backbone, look no further than Shapes Have Fangs. Also harnessing the kinetic energy of garage jams are Diagonals, whose frontman Steve Garcia also rocks in Peek-A-Boo records signees Black Lipstick.

Sharing the bill are Faceless Werewolves, a band that you’ve probably heard of, if never heard. This is a group that carries no dead weight; for proof, hear their catchy, facelift of a song “My Weakness.” And headlining are Basic, whose simple name and unadorned sound can’t disguise their prowess for hummable power-pop that would’ve made Cheap Trick circa ’77 very proud indeed. Impressive live and in the studio, they’re definitely a band to watch this year.

The bands will be loud, hearing loss ever imminent, and Lone Stars are advertised at $2.50. Should be fun.
