SXSW News & Rumor Updates: 135 Bands And Counting

Because we're all hoping they'll finally find their audience (aside from our moms) and land a record deal, The Black Crowes have announced their 2008 tour, which includes a stop at SXSW 2008. They will headline at Stubb's, no less. Keep your fingers crossed for them, folks.

In other news, we've received word on a handful of local bands that have been accepted by SXSW, including (but not limited to) The Lemurs, Peel, Weird Weeds, Car Stereo (Wars) and almost local rapper Bun B of UGK (Houston). We'll be updating with local additions as often as we can, so stay tuned!

There's also word that the "impossible to get in to" Playboy party will return this year on Thursday 3/13. Sorry, no word on a guestlist. In showcase news, we've also seen it noted that Graveface Records is doing an official showcase featuring Black Moth Super Rainbow, Dreamend, and Experimental Aircraft on Saturday 3/15. There will also be an official showcase from Norway's Smalltown Supersound label with acts including Kim Hiorthøy, Lindstrom, Tussle, Bjorn Torske, Arp and KXP. Finally, Done Waiting reports that Signal To Noise magazine is hosting a Saturday showcase featuring both Jandek and Space City Gamelan.

On the registration front, the next deadline for badge purchases is tomorrow, January 11th! After the deadline, music badge prices jump from $550 to $600, while film badges move from $325 to $350. So if you're going the deluxe badge route but have procrastinated, save yourself $50 of BBQ and beer money and register pronto.
