This Week in Theatre: New Year, New Stuff
We've mentioned the Dick Monologues before (s'matterofact there's a performance tonight at Zach's Groten Theatre), and we're especially keen on Spike & Co's newest venture, Dick-E-Oke [tickets]. Sunday, 1/13, 10pm at the Alamo Downtown, the big Dick cast and Austin's premiere naughty boy band, Cedar Fever, will thrill and excite you with performances, sing-alongs, and heaven knows what else.
Frontera has crept up on us again this year; everyone's favorite fringe fest kicks off at Hyde Park Theatre in less than a week, on Tuesday 1/15 [tickets]. Among the first tasty morsels, on Tuesday Arthur Simone—with his ColdTowne buddies and his dog—turns out a "hilarious & adorable" improv set. Same night, more dogs: My Ballet for Dog and Red-Haired Girl by Hank Schwemmer, with the also hilarious and adorable (uh, in that order) David Yeakle and Elizabeth Doss.
Wednesday at Frontera brings the Apocalypse by Elizabeth Cobbe ("The world is coming to an end. Oops!"), and the always stellar Uprise! Productions with Cry Havoc Stage Combat. We were floored (figuratively, thank goodness) the last time we caught an Uprise! performance. Look for continuing Frontera coverage and interviews next week.
