Austinist Show Preview: Beerland flexes its muscles tonight

Tired of free shows? Neither are we. But Beerland is upping the ante this week with two impressive bills, one tonight and one on Friday. First, School Police, The Pillow Queens, Poor People, and The Nasty Rumors play this evening, and there's a great line-up on Friday as well (preview forthcoming).
While the bands on this evening’s bill might be n00bs compared to this stud, there’s always something exciting about watching relatively newer bands strut their stuff.
The Pillow Queens are a dressed-up, fun loving group with farfisa-happy songs about animal poseurs and television, School Police have a lot of lo-fi endearment to spread around, Poor People count Stax records as an influence (telling, yes?) and The Nasty Rumors may have best been described by Austin360’s Ameera Butt as a “Band influenced by Radiohead and the Beatles…”. A rock band influenced by the Beatles? Say no more!
