Austin-Filmed Teeth Leaves Audiences Curious
As we waited for our feature presentation at the Drafthouse over the weekend, we laughed at the trailer above. The film is titled Teeth and it doesn't take long to figure out that the pearly whites they refer to aren't found in the mouth, but in a confused teenager's "vajajay".
The synopsis from the film's official site, "High school student Dawn works hard at suppressing her budding sexuality by being the local chastity group's most active participant. Her task is made even more difficult by her bad boy stepbrother Brad's increasingly provocative behavior at home. A stranger to her own body, innocent Dawn discovers she has a toothed vagina when she becomes the object of violence. As she struggles to comprehend her anatomical uniqueness, Dawn experiences both the pitfalls and the power of being a living example of the vagina dentata myth."
While the trailer may be making audiences spit out their beer in laughter, the film premiered at The 2007 Berlin Film Festival and became an Official Selection at Sundance, with lead actress Jess Weixler receiving the Special Dramatic Jury Prize for Acting at the festival. Other than this film being hailed as mastering the film adaptation of "vagina dentata mythology", we don't really know much else about it...other than it was filmed right here in Austin, Texas. If you saw it at Sundance, downloaded it off the web or if you worked on the set, we want to hear your thoughts on the film.
Teeth will be on limited released by Roadside Attractions starting January 18th, 2008.
