Ask Austinist: Watching the Polls
Welcome to Ask Austinist, the feature wherein we answer questions from our readers. Today we take on this question from Ken:
Could Austinist please provide some tips on bars or other not so serious venues where political junkies can watch their favorite change-agent, decider, hope salesman and sycophants and wonks stumble their way through presidential primary election nights?Scholz Garten, in close proximity to the capitol, had a large crowd out for the Iowa caucus results last week and will be showing the New Hampshire results tonight. Scholz is a historic spot, so a worthy place to watch the results of what could be a historic primary.

The following venues are favorites of local politicos, but it is recommended you call ahead and double check about possible events tonight.
There is a good chance there will be political junkies of the Democratic persuasion at the Stephen F. Austin hotel bar (on the second floor). When the Dems won the Congressional majority, the champagne was flowing there.
Stephen F. Austin

The Brown Bar tends to host politically-related events; on certain past election days, your "I Voted" sticker got you a discount on your tab.
Brown Bar
8th and Colorado

The Cloak Room is a hangout for legislators when the Lege is in session, but is much quieter when the politicians are out of town (such as now).

Mother egan's on West sixth will put on the news for you. I like to call ahead just to make sure if I'm bringing a group of people. its up to the bartender but they are usually very accomodating. also a great place to catch soccer games! and yummy shepards pie to boot.
Hmm, just got a note that management for the Brown Bar has changed, so they may not be as into politics as they used to be.
barack out with your kahk out!
please, that is not barney noodles as there is no intraweb connection at the springs and like he even knows/cares who barack is... i smell the H.O.
