Emo's Free Week Continues To Rock

Steaming on through the weekend, Free Week at Emo's continues Monday night with a mostly local smattering of acts at the lounge and inside stages.

Kicking off the set inside is Scorpion Child, a classic rock outfit with a vocalist who could be Robert Plant's distant nephew. The UK's twangy popsters Big Black Smoke will follow in early Beatles style. Consider The Source and Cobretti will round out the night, each with a punk/prog-rock explosion; specifically, Consider the Source will show some experimental and punk love, and Cobretti's lead singer will stylistically and unapologetically scream-talk the whole set through. Dude's vocal chords are hard as steel.

In the lounge, the aptly named Pleasant Grove opens with a jazzy groove, followed by twee pop locals Hollywood Gossip. Next up are The Easies, whose lead singer (reminiscent of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O) will front the set with heaping spoonfuls of attitude and soul. Like the inside stage, the lounge will take a different direction at the night's end: noisy, experimental groups Many Birthdays, whose songs might find a home in Hackers, and Single Frame, synth- and beat-loving new wave indie rockers, will close for the evening.
