Blanton's B Scene: DJ Second Line Social & the Concept of Time

Blanton B Scene w/ Waxploitation DJ Second Line Social
Jan. 4, 2007
(Blanton Museum of Art)
$5 Members, $10 Non-Members 6-11 p.m.
[info]
The Blanton Museum's B Scene events happen once a month and celebrate the arts by combining music, drinks and socializing to rejuvenate the sometimes stuffy fine art scene. Their unique approach to reaching out to the public this way includes showcasing local musicians and DJs, and each B Scene event offers a different genre representation from Austin's diverse musical culture.

January 2008's party is no different: the gallery will host DJ Second Line Social (Gabe Vaughn) of Waxploitation fame, spinning his favorite vinyl goodies, sock-hop style. We love the resurgence of the sock hop, which has taken hold of Austin in a good way, fostering love of old 45's, classic R&B and soul, and the shameless enjoyment of dance at various venues around town. Vaughn specializes in New Orleans soul, favoring heavy funk and boogaloo. If you missed the New Year's Eve sock hop at Scoot Inn, don't miss his set at the Blanton, it's sure to be inspiring enough for you to leave your shoes at the door.

In addition to the music, the Blanton will provide beer, wine, and Blantinis at the cash bar, and free hors d'oeuvres courtesy of Catering by Rosemary in the atrium. Visitors will also have a chance to sign up for ten-minute massage or reflexology treatments from Whole Body Studio therapists. Art Briefs tours will be staggered throughout the evening, focusing on pieces addressing the concept of space and time. It's a trip Henri Bergson would be proud of, so don't miss these short art walks on account of the dance floor and relaxation therapy.
