Austinist SXSW Rumor Update

White Shoes & the Couples Company are rumored to be coming in from Indonesia (via) for SXSW 2008. The band, formed in 2002, is inspired by Indonesian films of the '70s and retro disco beats, as well as classic '30s jazz. They recently signed to Minty Fresh, and we predict 2008 as their break-out year, provided they roll into town with a couple of good shows booked. Fans of I'm From Barcelona and The Cardigans will adore Aprilia Apsari's lilting pop vocals and the delicate string arrangements layered against infinitely danceable tunes.

Domino Records will also return to SXSW again this year with a fresh batch of next big things. The label, which supports such acts as Franz Ferdinand, Animal Collective and Arctic Monkeys will bring The Kills, White Williams, Lightspeed Champion, Sons & Daughters and These New Puritans together for one night and one very special showcase.

Other notable adds include Vampire Weekend, a "hot new band" that's getting a ton of buzz right now. Additionally, Columbus Discount records will have a showcase, and it might feature bands like Times New Viking and Necropolis. Crustacean records will also have a showcase, featuring Madison bands (and others) like Peelander-Z, a Japanese punk trio based in New York City, Birthday Suits, Ouija Radio, Screamin' Cyn Cyn and the Pons and The Gusto.

Jeff Barringer has a friend with a little birdie who dropped names like Les Claypool, the National (though our birdies have told us otherwise), R.E.M., Beastie Boys, Blind Melon, Ozomatli and Ani Difranco. If the National wasn't being thrown around in that mix of rumors, we'd think that sounded like a killer lineup for SXSW 1999.

Time New Viking? Tell me this isn't a band named after a fucking font.

Also: Blind Melon? Joined perhaps by a reformed Sublime? Craptastic.

Why aren't you offended by these guys and this bitch?!
