Austin Bites: Shilla
Location: 6406 N. IH-35 in the Lincoln Shopping Center [map]
Phone: (512) 453-4111
Cost: Entrees $5-10
Atmosphere: Sketchy wood-paneled Lincoln Center strip-mall ambiance.
Food: Fans of Korean food, spiced meats, tasty banchan sides, and surprisingly good sushi will find a lot to like at Shilla. Shilla offers delicious beef and pork bulgogi, tabletop barbecuing for marinated ribs and the like, and whole broiled mackerel.
Shilla also offers sushi that, while not exactly top-tier, is fresh and better than we expected. While the sushi is good, bona fide sushi snobs might be better served sticking to one of Austin's better-known sushi joints like Uchi or Mushashino.
Shilla boasts a brisk lunch service. The pork bulgogi in particular is crave-worthy and the bento box lunches are a great value. It's a smidge more authentic than it's snazzier-outfitted and more fusion-oriented competitor Ka-prow, with banchan and Korean dishes on par with the tasty Korea House. We'll be back for the Bi Bam Bop, which we were told is a don't-miss.

Is it owned by the same Shilla who comments here occasionally?
Don't be shilli!
