Austinist Show Preview & Giveaway: Antelope, The Strange Attractors

For anyone who was ever a huge fan of DC bands like Fugazi, Minor Threat, Shudder to Think, Rites of Spring and, more recently, Q and Not U, seeing the Dischord label attached to a CD probably still brings on a burst of enthusiasm and a curiosity that must be slaked. And when you see a relatively new band on the roster, say Antelope, is playing at a local venue, say Emo’s, on a day of the week, say Wednesday, where you have nothing better to do than watch bad television reruns brought on by the strike, it’s hard to stay away. You can expect this threesome from the Capital to bring on a stripped down, sharp post-punk sound that becomes a little entrancing when the repetitive vocals and guitar pings meet the simple beats. The group is wrapping up a strong wave of touring in the US and Europe in support of the release earlier this year of their debut full-length, Reflector.

Locals The Strange Attractors and their dark-psych booming with a layered guitar hum, distant, echoey vocals and a little garage grit will supply the second half of the local support. The slightly distorted and infectious rock and roll plus accordion of Austin trio The Koreans will open the show. Follow the jump for a chance to win tickets!
