I know its wrong, but the SUV story makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
But let me guess, if they started vandalizing Prius' you would be outraged?
I'm with Jros. Damn all these other people. Who do they think they are? Driving in their cars that use gas and living in neighborhoods that 40 years ago they weren't living in. And for themselves, too. Always thinking about themselves, and where they're going, and what they're doing. And their kids, and grandkids, and crap like that.
Everyone in Austin should beat the shit out of everyone whose lifestyles they don't agree with, or at the very least, destroy their personal property. You know, just to keep Austin what it is, or at least bring it back to what it used to be. And then the winner can win, and we won't have any of these other losers around.
Or if they are around, at least it'll cost them a good $500 to get back in their cars again.
Yeah, that's the ticket.
As noted above...
I know its wrong. Destruction of property is no way to get your point across. I'm thinking public shaming and high gas prices are more effective SUV deterrents.
On the other hand, even though the Statesman article conspicuously avoids the obvious conclusion, that some person or group is purposefully targeting SUV owners for vigilante-style payback (eco-terrorism?), it DID get in the paper. And in the Austinist, where I saw it. And maybe someone who owns an SUV saw it too. And maybe they'll say something like "But let me guess, if they started vandalizing Prius' you would be outraged?" And they would be right about that. But then again, maybe it will make them consider how owning an SUV is really not a very responsible thing to do if they're an intelligent and moral person in a country at war over, among other things, steady access to oil. And that, yes, they are contributing to global warming more than a person who drives a Prius. I mean, global village, one world, all that shit. And if they are simply defending owning and driving an SUV to be contrarian when they really ride a bike to work and changed out all their incandescent bulbs for compact flourescents after An Inconvenient Truth came out, then they should feel secretly warm and fuzzy too. And if they don't, tell me where they live and I'll smash out the back window of their Prius.
But what's really going to happen is the people who got their windows smashed out will buy Hummers and I don't think a BB gun will do it. And then the vigilantes will buy real guns. And soon we'll be emboiled in an all-out civil war with SUV drivers running down eco-bandits with .22s and kerchiefs on their faces. And the middle ground will evaporate as it does in any war. So y'all best choose sides.
great. so my mazda cx7, which gets the exact same gas milage as a vw passat, is going to be targeted just because it sits a little higher off the ground.
are they only targeting the biggies like expeditions/suburbans/naviagtors or are they going after teenie little crossovers too?
a hummer, i can understand. a kia sportage, not so much. are these hooligans really doing all their research before hitting (haha) the road?
Jros, I don't own an SUV and you might want to do a little research about how eco-friendly a hybrid or ethanol burning vehicle is compared to an efficient fuel only burning vehicle. I think when you dig a little deeper you'll find that you might be another tragic victim of a fad, but at least its a good intentioned one. While I fully support eco-friendly activities and try to do as much as I can to eliminate my waste and improve the standing of the environment, its impossible to be perfect like you unless we all live in caves, grow our own foods and never utilize any form of transportation or electricty.
But alas, you are replying to us with your righteousness on your computer made of plastic and really hard to dispose of batteries along with the energy you're plugged into to make your rightoues points. But we understand, you have a right to utilize things that are damaging to the environment, because you don't drive an SUV.
I am not a hybrid owner. I can't afford it. And I'm not perfect and never said I was. We're all created equal. But, you know, some of us are just more equal than others. Your thoughts above remind me of moral majority arguments against gay marriage. "If we let gays marry, what's next? Beastiality?" As far as righteousness goes, you are oozing a little yourself Grape Ape.
Hmmmm, I wonder why I wrote my response that way? If only you could recognize it when you type out your own responses. Glad you picked up on it though, I will say I'm actually a little impressed but just a little.
Can't we all just be friends?
Sure, I'm done pushing buttons. To be honest, I do believe I understand the intent of you first comment, but it was just a big red "push me" button I couldn't ignore. Cheers.
