Tonight at the Salvage Vanguard Theater, music and film will be united in odd, unexpected ways. Italian musician Giuseppe Ielasi and Austrian filmmaker Michaela Grill are the guests of honor at this event sponsored by the Church of the Friendly Ghost. Ielasi has a long history with improvised music and uses “guitars as primary sound sources by integrating microphones and multichannel speaker systems in order to create complex networks for sound diffusion in relation to space” according to this event's press release. Sounds confusing, but obviously far from typical.

Accompanying Ielasi’s performance will be film work from Grill, who “deconstructs footage of urban (and sometimes natural) environments to create beautiful, minimalist abstractions.”

Opening for the two Europeans are Austin’s own Jacob Green and Josh Ronsen. The two, who work with electronics, various reed instruments, and percussion, will also be doing it up experimental with the added visual work of video projection artist Mari Akita. You may know Green from his store End of an Ear, and Ronsen also spends time with the Austin New Music Co-op.

While the entrance fee is a recommended eight dollars, the Salvage Vanguard Theater will not be turning people away, and those who can provide a smaller donation are still welcome to come.
