Theatre News Bits
[Welcome to our new weekly feature that keeps you apprised of what's going on in Austin's theatre scene.]
As reported by Jeanne Claire van Ryzin at the Statesman, thirteen years after founding Salvage Vanguard Theater, Artistic Director Jason Neulander is stepping down. Neulander has grown SVT from a crazy little fringe collective to a powerhouse producer of cutting-edge works. No doubt it'll be very exciting to see what he gets into next.
After packing Hyde Park Theatre for months, Spike Gillespie's The Dick Monologues is renaming, retooling, and moving in the new year. Look for Speaking of Dick to hit Zach's Groten Stage on January 9, and possibly take up residence at yet a different, larger venue in the months following.
Want a gorgeous upright for Christmas? In something of a hard-luck tale, Carlos Treviño (founder of Physical Plant; player with Rubber Repertory, Rude Mechanicals, and many more) has put his beautiful Yamaha M500 Studio Piano up for grabs on Craigslist. Treviño's mojo alone makes this a deal worth checking out.
Don't look now, but Yellow Tape Construction Company is selling out. Every single seat at last weekend's Ultimate Christmas Musical: The Musical was taken. The show closes next weekend (12/22), so if you want to see it, get your tickets while the gettin's good.
