Austinist Show Preview: Gil Mantera's Party Dream at the Beauty Bar

The Beauty Bar hosts the fascinating Gil Mantera’s Party Dream this Saturday. Hailing from Ohio originally, the duo consists of Gil Mantera and Ultimate Donny, two brothers who combine thumping dance beats and traditional rock music to create an electric smorgasbord of synth-pop that will keep you on the dance floor all night long. The hodgepodge of beats and sounds is as exhilarating as it is intriguing; always entertaining, sometimes cheesy. The duo’s live show seems to be quite a spectacle and a DVD (Live Video Archive [Vol. 01]) showcasing all the glory is also available. Gil Mantera’s Party Dream self-released two records before 2005’s bloodsongs on Audio Eagle Records.

Check out a clip (from a show in Chicago last year) after the jump and decide for yourself -- creative or crap?

The sound cutting out was due to the Beauty Bar not the band. You notice how nobody from the bar helped when the power was going out. They could have cut the power to those riculous manicure stations that were pulling from the same breaker.

Oh yeah piltdown GMPD have been around since 2000....So I think they are passed 30 seconds. Novelty act or not they put on quite a show......When the place they are playing at has enough power for them. They didnt get to play most of their music which is a shame!

actually this wasn't that great, i thought. plus the sound kept cutting out unfortunately. i ended up going back to emo's for the killer Walkmen show.

Shmoothaustin, who are you, their freakin' press secretary? This is a stupid novelty act. They'll have their 30 seconds and then be gone. And rightly so.

    Saviors, my ass.

Furthermore, calling anyone with a critical perspective a hater, is retarded and lame.

GMPD is one of the freakiest and funkiest bands around. They're really not even a band - they're an experience - an enigma - an unexplained science project.

Aside from sick keyboards and a lead singer that often sounds like Bruce, they just compel us to rock out through the sheer magnitude of their magnificent munificence.

If this is not rock and roll at its best, I don't know what is.

Don't hate - congratulate the saviors of rock and roll:

Watch out, Austin - cause the GMPD train is trill, and it's about to roll through your town.

I vote crap. They'll love it.
