Local WGA Members Will Gather At Paramount Tomorrow

Now in its sixth week, the Writers Guild of America strike is still going strong. And despite Alec Baldwin's hilarious/bizarre advice and Michael Eisner's name-calling, WGA members show few signs of giving in any time soon.

Though the effects of the strike are most evident in places like Los Angeles and New York City, you may be surprised to learn that there are around 100 WGA members living here in Austin. Tomorrow (Thursday, December 13th), beginning at noon, many of these local screenwriters will gather in front of the Paramount Theatre for a show of solidarity with their coastal brethren. The writers--including Stephen Harrigan (The Colt, King of Texas), Tim McCanlies (Secondhand Lions, The Iron Giant, Dancer, Texas Pop. 81) and Chris Mass (Chalk)--hope to demonstrate that the strike is a local issue, and that Austinites are also feeling the strain of the work stoppage.

The strike, which has been going on since November 5th, is largely about the way that writers are compensated when their work is distributed over the internet. The writers for NBC's hit show "The Office" explain it more hilariously here.

Because I don't suck studio dick? Tell me, BN, why is it noble for these "writers" to sit around and complain but when I do it I'm a dipshit?

yea, it certainly is easy. all most as easy as it is to sit around and complain. why don't you have a few scripts in production yet, dipshit? i mean, loudmouth.

Does anybody know where I can find work as a scab? It's not like you have to be talented to write for TV and films.
