Eanes School District To Drop Their Complaint Against Physics Teacher
When Dan Harper resigned from teaching physics at Westlake High in August, Eanes school district was not amused. Never mind that Harper was leaving his position with the wealthy district to teach at Akins and advise science teachers at low-performing schools. Eanes was concerned because the teacher had led their physics program to be one of the best in the nation and had quit less than 45 days before the start of the school year. Therefore, they refused to accept his resignation and filed a complaint with the state.
Yesterday, however, Eanes school district superintendent Nola Wellman announced that if Harper turns in his resignation again (by the end of this week), she will recommend that it be accepted and the complaint to the state be dropped. As evidenced in the comment thread from an earlier post on this story, former students and others in the community stood by the teacher in his decision to move to the Austin school. The Statesman reports that petitions with over 600 signatures have been received by district officials asking that they let this matter drop.
