Austinist Show Preview: {{{Sunset}}} and Gulf of Mexico at Beerland
Bill Baird is starting from the ground up. After his previous band Sound Team imploded under the weight of diminished returns for their major label debut, Monster Movie, Baird has assembled a new band, and is recording anew at his Big Orange studio in East Austin.
While the name of Baird’s projects are subject to change, from just Bill Baird to Silent Sunset and now to {{{Sunset}}}, the music Baird composes is also evolving from the hybrid rock/synth combination that was his former band’s footfall into a more expressive and experimental direction. Come support Bill and his new band, which includes former Sound Teamer Sam Sanford, as they work out their new material tonight at Beerland. If you dig it, consider picking up one the new Pink Clouds cassette, out on Autobus Records and limited to just 100 copies.
Sharing the bill are Gulf of Mexico, a noisy five-piece who released their album Rooms You’ve Never Seen Before just earlier this year. The band cut their teeth on tours with Sound Team, and at this show they draft Jordan Johns (also formerly of Sound Team) into the fold.
