Poof! Two Old-School Albertsons Stores Go All H-E-B

Fans of creepy, overpriced and sort of socially awkward grocery shopping will be disappointed to read that after weeks of redesigning, adding more people to the store employee rosters, doubling the checkout lanes and stocking shelves with the kind of stuff most of us have become accustomed to buying, H-E-B is ready to re-open two Albertsons stores that had mysteriously remained open under the quirky Albertsons brands into the new century.
The Albertsons at 12860 Research Blvd in Austin re-opens today as an H-E-B, and will be open from 6am-1am daily, while the Albertsons at 3750 Gattis School Rd in Round Rock will re-open on Friday, and will be open from 6am-midnight daily.

The G-HEB rules - Randall's sucks monkey balls and charges you twice as much for it.

Yeah, the Hancock HEB is a massive clusterfuck even at 2 a.m. Either it's way too crowded (in the day and evening) or there's nobody there so a crazy line forms at the self check-out stations (and they'll be, like, out of tortillas or something).

Of course it's basically UT's grocery store, so I don't know that there's any way around it, other then more people going to Wheatsville or Fresh Plus.

Y'all don't even know. Randall's is where its at.

But then again, it's the HEB at South Congress and Oltorf that drove me to shop there. I'd rather spend 45 minutes dumpster diving behind a Red Cap Chick looking for fresh chick leg than step foot in that scuzz factory ever again.

And for the record, Golden Chick beats the giblets out of Red Cap.

Oh god, I used to live two blocks from the HEBHan and god damn, what a fucking nightmare that store was.

The Hancock HEB would be a bit more tolerable if the parking lot wasn't chaos at all hours, especially right in front of the store. (Of course, Whole Foods outdid HEB by making their parking lot chaos AND underground!)

  • heyzeus

See? They need to open a new store, so that I don't have to deal with unwashed lunatics like drafthouse henri when I'm trying to buy my Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Hey! I love the Hancock HEB! Especially because I think everyone I've ever met shops there, and there's always someone shopping there that sees me at my most disheveled worst, like the times when I stop showering after I realize that I need to run and get more shampoo...

  • YoYoMa

now if they could just replace all the Randall's with HEBs, life would be perfect.

  • heyzeus

Now if only they could open a store somewhere in the city so that the Hancock HEB isn't a super-packed miserable shopping experience at all times.
