Santa Speedo Run Balances Naughty with Nice — Just Pray You Don't Lose a Nipple
Some steely individuals will get together to participate in Austin's first annual Santa Speedo Run, wearing, as you might have guessed, nothing but the trademark Lycra swim briefs.
It's all in the name of good fun, while (informally) fundraising for a local charity, Out Youth, which provides support to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning teens in Central Texas.
Local "Head Santa" Edward Cruz credits the idea to similar events held in Boston and Toronto for the past few years. The former started in 2000 when a group of drunk guys sprinted through downtown, accompanied via boombox by the soundtrack to The Muppet Christmas Carol. It's since drawn thousands of runners, and raised over $150,000 for various charities.
Cruz believes that the same can be accomplished in Austin. The idea is for every Team Santa Speedo Runner to raise or donate at least $25 for Out Youth, making the donation directly to them via check or their website.
"Come celebrate the season, raise some money for a really great cause, and show off your fine bod (or not) in some very minimal swimwear," writes Cruz. "It should be a fun event, with the only objective being to do some good while making complete and utter spectacles of ourselves."
To participate:
