
- Fantastic Fest '08 Badges are on sale now! VIP badges sold out while the '07 festival was still running, but there are some new ticket options for '08 including "2nd Half" and "Daytime Only" badges.
- UT Professor Ellen Spiro and Talkshow Host Phil Donahue's doc "Body of War" has made the Oscar shortlist. Check out Chris Garcia's interview with Spiro here.
- The Belgian government has honored four Austin filmmakers for their documentary work. We assume they also sent some kind of waffle bouquet.
- CBS will host open auditions for Big Brother 8 in Katy TX this Saturday. All applicants should wear a backwards baseball cap and an obnoxious beaded or shark-tooth necklace.
- The deadline for SXSW Film submissions is December 7th. If you have questions about submitting, and you're an AFS Filmmaker-level member, you can ask Matt Dentler in person tonight.
- SXSW and Austin-based ON Networks will host the first annual "Greenlight Awards" honoring original digital entertainment series.
- Ex-Alamo Head Programmer Kier-La Janisse was recently profiled in the Winnipeg Free Press. Check out her book, "A Violent Professional", which was brilliantly designed by Austinite Rob Jones.

"All the movies are rated with stars and hearts," Janisse says. "The stars rate how much screentime he has in the movie and they hearts rate how cute he is in the movie."
Oh, Kier-La. She is way too precious for Winnipeg. John K. Samson knows what I'm talking about.
I always appreciated the work Kier-La did for the Drafthouse, her awesome scopitones program comes immediately to mind, but I became completely endeared to her at the AFS screening of "Planet of the Vampires" / "Terrore Nello Spazio". Before the film began she came to the front of the theater dressed up in a spacesuit exactly like the crew members wore in the film.

I find it hard not to admire that level of nerdery and love for a film that most people haven't even heard of.
