Austinist Show Preview: Benko, The Boxing Lesson, & The Story Of at Stubb's

Thanksgiving is just around the corner but before you get stuffed and sleepy, get your long weekend started right on Wednesday evening. There is a mouth watering set of shows on the Austin schedule for the 21st. Extended details to follow in our Weekend Music Preview, but for now, plan on making your way to Stubb’s for a chance to witness the eclectic trio that is Benko. Although their vibraphone paced melodies might be considered somewhat of a novelty, the act still harbors the traits of conventional indie-rock in their unique sound. With the departure of the esteemed Graham Reynolds, Benko currently consists of Erik Grostic, Sarah Norris, and Aaron Dugan. Grostic and Norris handle the bass and vibraphone respectively and share vocal duties, with Dugan on drums. Also on the bill this night at Stubb’s (Indoors) is The Story Of, who were featured on Le Diamant Brut recently, and The Boxing Lesson, who wrapped up work on their debut full-length, Wild Streaks & Windy Days earlier this year. The latter’s expansive, psychedelic space-rock is always enjoyable and worth a listen, although song titles such as “Dark Side of the Moog” and “Indie-Rock is Dead” should wet your appetite regardless.
