Austinist Show Giveaway: The Swell Season at Stubb's

If you loved the romantic indie musical Once, head to Stubb’s early tonight to see the movie recreated live by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. In the film, Hansard, Irish frontman of The Frames, and Irglová, a Czech singer and pianist, played two musicians that fall for each other in song. As The Swell Season, the duo performs melodic European folk that formed the backbone of the movie.

We may be the only person in Austin and hasn’t seen Once. For us, tonight will be a show of lovely acoustic duets without cinematic reference. And maybe that is even better. Every review we’ve seen on The Swell Season refers to the movie, but this album was actually recorded before filming. Some of the songs were revised for Once while The Frames rerecorded others for their recent album The Cost. Hansard and Irglová’s music does indeed stand on its own two feet quite successfully.

What do you think, is The Swell Season a legitimate band and album, or merely a reflection of Once? We’d like to send a few readers to Stubb’s tonight to find out. Enter to win free tickets below.
