Concert Preview and Giveaway: Jens Lekman at the Parish Room

With boyish charm and a silken voice, Swedish sensation Jens Lekman will play some songs tonight at The Parish Room. Plenty of those songs are sure to come from Night Falls Over Kortedala, a critically-praised (Pitchfork gave it a 9.0, for God's sake) collection of ornate and catchy-in-that-old-timey-way pop. And, for good measure, we here at the Austinist kinda liked it, too.

Whereas his albums are full of samples (mostly from European acts from the early twentieth century and other people we Americans have never heard of) that require a slew of on-stage assistance to reproduce live, the show at The Parish Room will lend a unique opportunity to see Lekman's pop mastermind at it's most bare and basic--yes, he's going to be performing solo, or at least with minimal accompaniment. I have no idea what this means, but I'm sure curious. And if it's anything like the embarrassingly endearing and surprisingly funny video to be found after the jump, then this is going to be a show you won't want to miss.

Opening up will be someone much closer to our heart than Sweden--Austin-dweller Kristi Rae will play her own brand of twenty-first century folk. If you'd like to catch her and Jens at the wonderful price of zero dollars, fill out the contest entry form below.
