Free Show Alert: The Blakes, White Denim @ Mohawk Tonight

If by some chance you have not yet experienced the thrill that is a White Denim show, there's no excuse after tonight. They'll be playing a free show at the Mohawk, alongside The Blakes, Golden Boys and The Hugs.

The Blakes are a three piece outfit from Seattle, touring in support of their most recent release, a self-titled LP. "Don't Bother Me," an apparent single, is teeming with Brit-pop influenced guitars, jangly garage after tastes and gritty vocals. Strokes references aside, we're anxious to see what the fuss is all about. Besides, they are rumored to have fantastic hair, and no beards in sight. Will Austin let this stand? Show up to find out.

Joining the pair of trios will be the Goldenboys and the Hugs. You might recognize the Goldenboys, as they graced the cover of last week's Chronicle. Their latest record, Whiskey Flower, blends '60s psychedlics and straight ahead pop. The Hugs, on the other hand, are impossible to locate and may or may not force-embrace the crowd, so beware.
