Get your 1960s retro fix with the Pipettes, headlining tonight at the Parish Room. The self-aware manufactured 1960s girl group vibe is somehow much more fun than it sounds, and the Pipettes won our hearts when they put out that deadpan Beyond the Valley of the Dolls send up video for "Pull Shapes" from their 2006 debut album. The band makes everything just tacky enough to be fun, so put on your favorite dancing shoes, tease your hair, and shake a tailfeather.

Joining the Pipettes are Nicole Atkins & the Sea. Nicole Atkins is from New Jersey, but it's not the New Jersey of Bruce Springsteen's fist-pumping rock anthems, it's the Jersey of busted seaside towns marked by rundown amusement parks. Atkins's voice is sultry and rich, a seductive siren song from one of the few mermaids surviving in the waters off the polluted shore. The music is postmodern crooning of the best variety with bits of rock and roll woven throughout. Get ready -- this one's a heartbreaker.
