Creator Of PostSecret To Speak At UT

If you had the opportunity to tell the world your deepest, darkest secret, would you? Would you do it if you could reveal these feelings behind the anonymity of a postcard?

That's the idea Frank Warren had in 2004 when he created PostSecret as a community art project in Washington D.C.

The website, which has received multiple awards, now takes in roughly three million new visitors a month and has been visited by over 100 million people. In the past, these postcards have been featured in art galleries, best-selling books, and that All-American Rejects music video. Since its inception, Warren has received well over 100,000 postcards from people all over the world who want to spill the beans.

Frank Warren, one of the Forbes Magazine's 25 Most Influential People on the Internet, is an advocate for suicide prevention. He actively volunteers with Hopeline, a national suicide help-line, and was recently presented with an award from the National Mental Health Association for PostSecret's ability to "move the cause of mental health forward."

From the sweet nothings to the big somethings, PostSecret is one of those gems of the internet that offers both the contemplative and the trivial. It's a slice of life from all over the world... the slice no one would dare give you in person.

Warren is bringing his art-therapy-voyeur show to the Texas Union Ballroom at UT this Thursday, at 7pm. The event is free, but you'll need to have a valid UT ID to pick up a ticket at the Union Building, Room 4.300. Or, if you're a student and are too lazy to pick up your tickets, try out our giveaway—the winner will have a pair reserved for them:
