Breaking News: Minor Chemical Attack Pepper Spray Accident in North Austin

Several dozen employees at Dell Financial in North Austin were exposed to what authorities believe was pepper spray earlier today.

From the Blotter:

Austin/Travis County Emergency Medical Services is reporting that 40 Dell employees have been exposed to a toxic chemical, believed to be pepper spray discharged in an enclosed area at 12234 N. Interstate 35.

One person with a history of asthma was taken to St. David’s Hospital. All others refused treatment, according to Warren Hassinger, spokesman for Austin/Travis County EMS.

No other details were available.

Update: "According to Frink, an employee brought pepper spray to work on a key chain that had been dropped and cracked. The employee asked a colleague to fix it when the canister went off in the cubicle."

    More than 40 employees were sent home and a handful were treated for pepper spray exposure onsite, according to David Frink, a spokesman for Dell Financial, 12234 N. Interstate 35.

    According to Frink, an employee brought pepper spray to work on a key chain that had been dropped and cracked. The employee asked a colleague to fix it when the canister went of in the cubicle.
